What is it like to be the mom of a budding tennis champion who also goes to a virtual school? We sat down with Florence, an iUniversity Prep mom whose son Leo is a junior tennis star and soon-to-be-freshman, to find out:
Now that you’ve been an Owl mom for a while, what is your overall opinion of the school?
“This school is a life saver! Leo trains up to seven hours a day, and he also has to travel for competitions. When he was in traditional school, it was difficult to arrange for him to be absent, and stressful to manage school and tennis. Now he can create a school schedule that works around his tennis training, but he’s still getting a college prep education. iUniversity Prep is a great option for kids who are busy!”
Can you tell us more about how iUniversity Prep and virtual school have benefited your son?
“It’s important to us that Leo get in quality practice time. Previously, he would have trouble focusing after a long day of school. Now he has time to rest before practice, and he’s not worried about school while he’s there.”
What would you say to another parent who is considering online school for their child?
“It’s not the right choice for everyone, so you need to do your research before you make a decision. If you determine that online is right for your student, my prediction is that you will be very satisfied, especially if you choose iUniversity Prep. In addition to the flexible schedule, virtual school offers efficiency. Students don’t have to spend time in passing periods or waiting on things to happen; instead, they can use that time to work on their assignments or do something else they need to do. They don’t have to work at the same pace as everyone else, but can work ahead if they want to. This time saved really adds up to the students’ benefit after a while.”
What is Leo’s favorite subject in school?
“He has always liked math, and he continues to enjoy that subject at iUniversity Prep.”
How did your son become involved in tennis?
“My husband plays and that’s how my son got started. Leo picked up a racquet when he was six and he hasn’t stopped playing since!”
Is Leo better with keeping up with chores now that he has a flexible school schedule?
“He can’t manage a set chore schedule due to tennis, but he does follow through on the things he needs to take care of when he can get to them.”
Have Leo’s experience at iUniversity Prep made you consider going to online school yourself?
“As a matter of fact, yes! I have always wanted to become a nurse, so I am thinking about taking the nursing program pre-requisites online after seeing how beneficial Leo’s experience has been.”
